Thomas J. Foley

Tom Foley, is the firm’s principal civil litigation attorney.  Working closely with the firm’s attorney grievance team, Tom oversees matters involving litigation. Having an obtaining experienced “grievance defense team” is essential to the best possible outcome for the firm’s clients. 

Often the attorneys who retain our firm are in the midst of professional, as well as personal turmoil. Tom and the grievance team feel that although an appropriate defense to the pending matter is priority, a “look back” at any underlying issues is also important.  Tom is an advocate that all attorneys tend to their individual mental health in good times and bad. The firm actively supports recommending clients to the various Lawyer Assistant Programs (LAP) as well as individual, private therapists.  Tom believes in a holistic approach to the defense of grievance clients.   

Tom feels that his decades long experience in the areas of criminal law and plaintiff’s personal injury, places him in a unique position to defend attorney-clients facing the grievance process.  In civil and criminal law, Tom has always prepared his cases as if the cases had to be tried. Using that mindset, Tom tries from the outset to position the client’s case in the light most favorable under the circumstances. 

Tom currently serves as an adjunct professor of law at his alma mater, St. John’s University School of Law. Tom educates our future attorneys on the basics of “lawyering” with a strong focus on ethics. Tom is also very active at the Nassau County Bar Association. He is currently the chair the Bar’s newly formed “cyberlaw” committee, and a frequent lecturer to his colleagues. Tom is also active in the alumni associations at both his college, Boston College, and his high school, Chaminade High School.

Tom is a life-long, and proud resident of Long Island. He lives in Nassau County with his wife, Karen, and their two children.

Organizer and chief sponsor of the Massapequa Turkey Trot. This race is run each Thanksgiving to raise money to fight cancer.  Since 2011 the race has raised over $250,000.00.
